One year ago, my standard line about Redding was: “Hopeful, but not optimistic.”. One year later, I view 2018 in Redding quite differently. My new line is: “Hopeful, optimistic, and encouraged.” For me, that’s a big big change. In a nutshell, I credit this palpable change to the good leadership of Redding’s City Council.
True, the public initiative to increase taxes for public safety failed. Also true: At the November public safety public meeting, the excellent changes in policing were loudly voiced by numerous speakers. Nice. Then came the sheriff, Sheriff Bosenko. He stands up and says: If I feed prisoners in groups of 20, instead of groups of 32, I can get 60 more beds out of the jail…no cost.
Next comes the City Council meeting…
